Activities for the Month of Nov / Dec 2008 |
04 Nov : |
Hike the Harte Night. We want to get out and get some exercise before the winter weather turns on us. Dress for the weather, bring a flashlight, lug a mug and bring along some singing voices! Our route will be Community to the trail, then west along the trail to Municipal, back to Betsworth and the school for hot chocolate!!! Rainbow will have the REAL tails for the White Tail Beavers. |
| 11 Nov : | Remembrance Day Ceremonies. We meet at Oak Park High School ( 820 Charleswood Rd at Rannock Ave) in full uniform. Since this is a very popular venue, we recommend you be there no later than 10 am, even though ceremonies don’t start until 10:30. Bring a book or quiet toy for your youth to bide the time with. The first White Tail Beaver in a clean, full uniform will lay the wreath with the representatives from the Cub Pack and Scout Troop. |
| 12 Nov : | Art for Heroes. What better way to follow up Remembrance Day than with thank you gifts for modern day Military Heroes. We will create holiday greeting cards for some of the men and women serving overseas. Siblings wishing to make cards are very welcome to join us. This will also be the night Lodges are formed; the Beavers of each lodge will decide on a name for their group. |
| 19 Nov : | Service Activity – Operation Shoe Box. We will meet at the Dollarama at Charleswood Centre to start at 6:30. Each Beaver is to bring $2.00. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE YOUTH WEAR THEIR UNIFORMS, AND REMEMBER WHAT COLOUR THEIR LODGE IS. The youth will shop in lodges to fill a shoebox with items for children in other countries who are less fortunate than themselves. Afterwards, if there is time, we will move over to Tim Horton’s for Beaver Droppings. Parents are welcome to join us, although we kindly ask for no siblings on this outing. Parents looking to pick up their youth at 7:30 will find them at the Timmy’s |
| 26 Nov : | Campfire Night. A quiet (no, not really!) evening of reflection, and learning about campfire etiquette. Also a good time to practice our song repertoire (which is why it won’t be quiet), learn how Beaver Leaders get their names, and having fun in general. Song sheets will be available this night, and should be posted to our website by then. All these songs are important for an event coming up in the spring. SLEEP OVER REGISTRATIONS WILL BE DUE THIS NIGHT (read on for more information). |
| 03 Dec : | INVESTITURE Part 2. Families of new Beavers (that have not yet been invested) and Leaders are required to attend, as they play a part in the ceremony. Afterwards we will play games and sing songs, and maybe even snacks!!! VERY IMPORTANT FOR THIS NIGHT: First, any Beavers who invited friends who have since joined the Colony are eligible for a badge … please send Rainbow an email, and let her know the name of the Beaver who did the inviting, and the name of the Beaver who joined. Second, ALL the Beavers need their buckets this night. Beavers from previous years will know why … |
| 06-07 Dec : | Annual Christmas Sleep Over. Need we say more?? The Beavers will sleep over, make their own pizza dinners, help prepare a communal breakfast of Scout Muffins, clean their own dishes, look after their own gear …. Oh, and make all kinds of crafts, and play all kinds of games, and meet a special visitor Sunday morning. Which reminds me … in a couple weeks, one of our visitor’s special helpers will be sending out a questionnaire that must be turned in to Rainbow by the date on the top of the document. It is VERY IMPORTANT this document be completed in strict secrecy. At this hectic time of year, all of our guest’s helpers are so busy that we must enlist the assistance of our parents for the purpose of this event. MORE DETAILS WILL FOLLOW VERY VERY SOON!!!!!! It is also important that Beavers of non-Christian faiths be able to attend and not feel ostracized. Please speak with Rainbow to discuss adaptations to include your faith. Camp fees will be $20 per Beaver and $5 per parent. |
| 10 Dec : | Assiniboine Valley Railway Visit. We have the site behind the Garage booked for our campfire. Parents are asked to park in the 1 hr parking lot. We are being given the rate of $3.00 per person, regardless of age (except for under 2, who are free), which provides 2 tickets. The beauty of this is if you are not able to ride the trains that night, the tickets can be used another night. Registration forms will be required, with money, no later than the Sunday of sleep over. Tickets can be picked up from Rainbow at the campfire at approximately 6:30. Remember to dress for the weather and lug a mug!! Enjoy the trains and walk the trails, then warm up by the fire! |
